Ericsson EFC11 Electronic Fiber Cleaver for fibers with nominal coating of 250 µm
The Ericsson EFC11 / FK11 features ultrasonic cleaving action. A precision ground diamond bladed is attached to a resonant acoustic-stepped horn. The ultrasonic horn resonance is maintained by an electronic circuit for the duration of the cleave and then automatically terminated to preserve battery life. The ultrasonically vibrating blade moves slowly towards then tensioned fiber on stictionless damped bearings. Cleaving then takes place without the compressive stresses and blade intrusion into the fiber that is typical of conventional cleavers. This revolutionary cleaving technique produces superb planar ends of mirror quality with no hackle.
