The Fiber Sensor Interrogator (FSI) series is a fully-integrated, high-resolution, measurement system for Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) based optical sensing applications. The FSI is ideal for continuous Structure Health Monitoring (SHM) of strain, temperature, pressure, inclination, and displacement on bridges, dams, buildings, ships, aircraft and more.
Operational Principle
The FSI incorporates a Swept Wavelength Laser (SWL) that produces of laser signal with continuous varying wavelength. The laser signal is distributed through Sensor Interface Unit (SIU) to 15 independent fiber channels, each able to measure multiple FBG sensors. The photo detector for each channel converts the reflected optical signal from each FBG sensor into an electrical waveform. A high speed Data Acquisition (DAQ) card inside the SIU converts these waveform into data. This real-time waveform data is subsequently processed by a PC to calculate the specific wavelength of each FBG sensor through a customizable LambdaSense® software interface.
Each FSI system consists of three majors components:
• Swept Wavelength Laser (SWL)
• Sensor Interface Unit (SIU)
• Customizable LambdaSense® Software
Swept Wavelength Laser (SWL)
The SWL serves as an interrogating laser source for the FSI. There are three models available; standard, 90 nm wide-band, and 300 mW high power. Please visit optilab.com/swl for more information.
Sensor Interface Unit (SIU)
The laser signal is distributed through SIU to 15 fiber channels, each containing multiple FBG sensors. The SIU converts into electrical waveform the reflected optical signal from the FBG sensors. A DAQ card inside SIU converts this waveform into data. Each SIU are stackable to provide even more channels. Please visit optilab.com/siu for more detail.
LambdaSense® Software (Optional)
LambdaSense®, the customizable FBG sensing software provides wavelength monitoring and control on a PC via a USB 2.0 that connects to the SIU. Additionally, an optional PC may be ordered with the software pre-installed Please visit optilab.com/lambda for more detail.
